Blog tour with Review & Giveaway;Single (Stockton Beavers #1) by Collette West

Single by Collette West
Genre: Adult, Contemporary Romance

Underdog Luke “Single” Singleton is yearning to make a comeback. After getting hit in the neck with a pitch—an injury that nearly cost him his life—he has one last chance to play for his hometown team, the Stockton Beavers. But his mom has Alzheimer’s, and he’s all she has to depend on. How can he pursue his career, much less someone special?

Personal care aide Roberta Bennett is done dating baseball players. Having had her share of heartbreak, she heads to Stockton hoping for a fresh start. But after she finds Luke’s mom outside, lost, and alone, she can’t refuse when he hires her on the spot. Unbeknownst to Luke, Roberta is all too familiar with the violent tendencies of the pitcher who hit him.

Now that they’re living under the same roof, the last thing either of them is looking for is a relationship. But it’s not long before they find themselves drawn to each other. And right when Luke is thinking about finally making a change to his single status, a secret from Roberta’s past emerges with the power to tear them apart.

What I thought about Single

This is my first book from this author and I was drawn to this title because it's baseball season! I was looking for a baseball romance and this one seemed to fit the bill.

Luke is recovering from a sports injury. He's got baseball in his blood with his father having been a pro player.  But his world is turned on its side when his mother's Alzheimers gets worse and when he gets called back to play, he's got to make decisions about her care.  He's promised himself that he won't put her in a home, so he ends up hiring a caretaker for his mother.

Roberta is an independent woman with a heart of gold and a reputation for hooking up with the players. But Luke sees how she takes care of his mother, and that helps to bring them closer together.  She's got some secrets that she's keeping from him and that provides the conflict to this story.

I loved the baseball backdrop for this story. Luke's love for his mom complemented Roberta's compassion nicely, which made them a very cute couple as far as I was concerned. While this book wasn't as explicit as I'm used to reading, I didn't mind.  It was a nice easy one-day read for me.

I'm intrigued enough to continue reading this series.

 About the Author

Collette West grew up as somewhat of a jock-nerd hybrid. Entering the world three weeks premature, her dad nearly missed her birth because he had seats behind the dugout for a sold-out, highly-anticipated match-up between two of baseball's biggest rivals. Not to be outdone, her book-loving mom taught her how to read by the time she was three. A love of the game coupled with an appreciation for the written word were instilled in Collette's impressionable brain from a young age. No wonder her characters believe in the philosophy: sports + romance = a little slice of heaven.

Splitting her time between the Pocono Mountains and Manhattan, Collette indulges her inner fangirl by going to as many games as she can from hockey to baseball and downloading every sports romance novel in existence onto her iPad. When she's not clicking away on her laptop, she enjoys walking her dog in Central Park, satisfying her caffeine craving at the Starbucks on Broadway and keeping an eye out for Mr. Right. But above all, she loves dishing with her readers. Email her at collette_west@yahoo.com.

If you can’t stand the heat, get out of the orchard.
The last person Griffin Shipley expects to find stuck in a ditch on his Vermont country road is his ex-hookup. Five years ago they’d shared a couple of steamy nights together. But that was a lifetime ago.

At twenty-seven, Griff is now the accidental patriarch of his family farm. Even his enormous shoulders feel the strain of supporting his mother, three siblings and a dotty grandfather. He doesn’t have time for the sorority girl who’s shown up expecting to buy his harvest at half price.

Vermont was never in Audrey Kidder’s travel plans. Neither was Griff Shipley. But she needs a second chance with the restaurant conglomerate employing her. Okay—a fifth chance. And no self-righteous lumbersexual farmer will stand in her way.

They’re adversaries. They want entirely different things from life. Too bad their sexual chemistry is as hot as Audrey’s top secret enchilada sauce, and then some.

Excerpt & Message from Laura Kaye

I’m thrilled to be celebrating the release of my 25th novel, Ride Hard, the first book in my Raven Riders Motorcycle Club series about a new kind of MC with a protective mission. You might’ve first met the Ravens in the Hard Ink world, but this series stands on its own and is even sexier, edgier, and grittier! I can’t wait for you to get to know Dare, Haven, and everyone in the Raven world! And see down below for a giveaway and a bonus story offer! I hope you enjoy this excerpt from the book!

Excerpt from Ride Hard:

His left hand dragged down her body, over the small mounds of her breasts and the flat plane of her stomach. His fingers settled on the button to her jeans. “Because you realize now I have to exact my revenge.” He paused there, giving her the chance to tell him to back off.

She shivered beneath him. “I guess fair’s only fair,” she whispered.

That’s my girl, he thought, even though the sentiment was really problematic. On all kinds of levels. “You want me to stop, Haven, you just say the word.”

“Don’t stop,” she said, her lips parting, her breathing coming faster.

On a groan, Dare claimed her mouth with his. He tugged the button to her jeans free, yanked down the zipper, and pushed his hand beneath the snug material to find her hot and so damn slick.

Her tongue stroked against his, and he swallowed her moans as his fingers stroked her folds. She rocked her hips and parted her legs without him having to ask, pulling a growl of approval from low in his throat—and making him know that fingering her wasn’t going to be enough.

Not for him.

Not this time. And not that it had really been last time, either.

Dare wanted more of Haven. He wanted to taste her, drink her down, wear her on his skin. On his mouth.

Kissing her long and hard and deep, he gently withdrew his hand from between her legs and pushed at the denim around her waist. Haven clued in to what he was doing and helped him push down the material until she was bared to her knees.

And then Dare shoved down her body, gripped her hips in his hands, and planted his face against the triangle of blond hair at the junction of her thighs.

What I Thought About Ride Hard

I loved Laura Kaye's Hard Ink series, so I was thrilled to read she was going to do an MC spin off for the Raven Riders.  The 1001 Dark Nights short story whetted my appetite for Ride Hard and I was not disappointed.

In Ride Hard, we meet Haven and Cora, the two girls rescued when the Church gang when down in the Hard Ink series.  Rest assured that you need not read that series to enjoy this one -- LK gives enough background information that you will easily be able to follow the story and understand what happened to bring both the Raven Riders and Men of Hard Ink to this point.

Haven had been running from her abusive father when she was captured by the Church gang, and now the Raven Riders are helping to get her to a safe place, because that's a big part of their mission--to help victims of abuse.  I really liked that about this MC.  They don't just talk about being "good guys" -- they help people get free of abusive situations, while engaging in some dubious activity to keep the club funded.  They aren't saints, but they all have good hearts and slightly unsavory backgrounds of their own.

Dare Kenyon is the leader of the club, and there's an instant spark between him and Haven.  He knows he shouldn't go there--she's much younger than he is (I loved that aspect of the story), and she's about to be put in the Raven Riders version of a witness protection program.  But the attraction between them is strong, and Laura Kaye gives the reader a beautiful romance between these two.  It's not rushed (at least I didn't think so) and the love between these two is just so sweet, there has to be some way for them to stay together.

The story wraps up with some real serious stuff, with Haven's father making a deadly appearance at one of the Raven Rider functions.  With help from the Men of Hard Ink, Dare and Haven must face their future and their past together.  My only complaint was that the book seems to end a little abruptly for me but otherwise, Ride Hard was a perfect romance set in an MC world, and I'm really looking forward to more stories in this series.

Cover Reveal: The Empty Jar by M. Leighton

Cover Reveal

The Empty Jar
by
M. Leighton

Releasing May 8, 2016

Today is cover reveal day for M. Leighton's upcoming release entitled The Empty Jar.  She wanted to say a little something about the cover before we reveal it and the description, so here she is.

First of all, a huge, heartfelt THANK YOU to all of you amazing women who are helping me reveal this cover today. I appreciate everything you do for me, for authors in general and for this community.  As a reader, I love you, too:)

Secondly...

OMG OMG OMG!  IT'S FINALLY TIME TO REVEAL!

I feel like I've been waiting AGES to share this with you!

This cover... GAH!  Y'all, it took me forEVER to get it just right. There was a certain "feel" that I wanted to achieve with it and I wasn't happy until I felt that "feel" jumped right out when I looked at it. I wanted the cover to speak of the book. I wanted it to show the highs and lows, the sweet and the poignant, the depth of it, if you will.  And finally...finally, I feel like it does:)  You might not realize just how much NOW, but once you read this story, you'll be like, "Yeah.  That cover is perfect for this book!"

When I got the paperback proof in the other day, I held it in my hands and I just stared at it.  Not only is this story extremely special to me, but this is probably my favorite cover of all my books.  Ever.  When I look at it, I see so much more than just a picture.  I see all the things that I find in life, as well as what I put into the story that is The Empty Jar.  It's a blend of happy pinks and brooding blues. It's light and it's dark.  There are highs and there are lows.  There is morning and there is night.   But if you notice the sky on this cover, there are little flickers of brightness in the bodies of the lightning bugs. Life is that way, too. Even in the darkest part of the night, there is a spark of hope.  There is beauty.  There is the romantic glow of a full moon, the silvery face of your mate, the delicate twinkle of fireflies. It's all there if we look closely enough—that balance of beauty and tragedy.

And love.

Always love.

Below is a little more about the book. It's hard to tell you much without spoiling anything, but I think you can get a feel for it.  It's such a special story.  So raw, so real. I honestly can't wait for y'all to read it! I hope you love IT and the cover as much as I do:)

If you want to know more about how it came about, you can read my blog post about it here.

But before I get to that...THE COVER!

ARC Review:A Wild Ride (Thompson & Sons Book 4) by Vivian Arend

He’s the golden boy with a secret past

When Nicole Adams abruptly cancels their secret fling, Troy Thompson is stunned. The sex between them is sizzling, but she’s ready to move on—find a reliable guy, settle down, pop out a few babies. The thought of Nic in another man’s arms is maddening. And while her agenda freaks him out, Troy knows there’s no one in town nearly good enough for her. No one, that is, except him.

She’s his redemption and his future

Nicole doesn’t regret her sexual romp with Troy, but when he insists on taking the next step with her—marriage and parenthood—she figures he’s out of his mind. Troy? Husband and daddy material? Oh, he’s sexy beyond belief, with the ability to melt her panties with a single command, but the man’s not known for being responsible. Trying for forever with Mr. Frivolous? Everyone thinks it’s a fool’s game.

Everyone except Troy, who’s determined to make Nicole see the real him under the shiny exterior.

What I thought about A Wild Ride

In spite of having some sizzling hot chemistry with the youngest Thompson brother, Troy, Nicole decides that she's done with the friends-with-benefits secret arrangement she has with Troy, so she cuts him loose.

But Troy isn't ready to give up on Nicole yet and so he sets to win her back. Nicole tries to resist and there are some funny disastrous dates in there... but you know how it goes--she's not going to be able to resist the Thompson charm for long.

I really love this series.  Each book works well as a standalone and will make you want to read about the other brothers.  Troy was a bit special to me as the youngest brother, cause I personally think the youngest gets shortchanged in some ways, so I appreciated that aspect in the book.

Even though Nicole bugged me a bit, I liked these two togetherA Wild Ride is a very easy-to-read contemporary romance with the hot guy-next-door finding love.  Sweet. Perfect ending to the series.

Release Blitz & Review:Worth It All by Claudia Connor

Title: Worth It All
Series: The McKinney Brothers #3
Author: Claudia Connor
Publisher: Loveswept
Genre: Contemporary Romance
 Release Date: April 19, 2016

Blurb

She’s fighting for control. . . . Paige Roberts learned to fend for herself growing up. Now she’s doing everything possible to give her daughter, Casey, the stability she never had. But when the vivacious five-year-old decides she’s done wearing her prosthesis, Paige faces her toughest challenge yet: trusting a handsome, brooding stranger who simply wants to help.

What I thought about Worth It All

JT McKinney doesn't let the fact he lost his leg hold him back, at least not when it comes to leading an active life.  He's got a great job helping others with prosthetics and a whole slew of friends. He's not looking for romance until he meets Paige one night at the diner.

Paige works hard at two jobs and being a single mom is tough to handle while going to school, but she'd do anything to give her daughter a better life. She never factored a man into that equation but when Jake McKinney charms them both, she falls hard.

Then there's Casey. Claudia Connor does what she did in the first book in this series and made me fall in love with the five year old. Jake falls for her too, and she's just too precious without being annoying and I appreciated that.  Her and Jake melted my heart a few times.

Both Jake and Paige have some old wounds to get over before they can move forward and the maturity in which they deal with their past warmed my heart many times over. I fell in love with these two at the same time they were falling in love in the book.

Worth It All is a lovely contemporary romance that kept me interested from the beginning to end. It had me tearing  up at the right places and smiling, too.  It's sweet -- a real feelgood romance. I like this series a whole lot.  Recommended.

"What lies beneath my veiled perfection is the ugly truth—my truth, my reality, my destiny."

Vivian Graham has an acceptance letter into Harvard, a badass tattoo, loyal friends, ties to marijuana, a penchant for Dunkin’ Donuts, and her pesky V-card.

Everyday she takes the Red Line to her job at The Green Pot in Boston while her friends enter the coveted, black iron gates to higher learning. The ramifications from a tragic accident have put her life on hold while time marches on for everyone around her.

After graduating from Harvard Law, Boston native, Oliver Konrad, moves to Portland to start his career and his life. Three years later, after a horrific discovery, he returns home to trade in his three-piece suit for leather work boots and his suburban home for a condo in Cambridge.

All he brought back to the East Coast was an aversion to pillows and secrets he keeps hidden behind a mysterious locked door. Oliver’s days are predictable and his nights are lonely until he meets Vivian on the subway. Her long raven hair, green eyes, and mile-long legs are achingly sexy, but the way she "innocently" fingers and licks her Boston Kreme doughnut can only be described in two words—complete torture.

When their paths cross at every turn, laughter is abundant, friendship is easy, and love is unintentional. However, their future seems improbable.
